Article Marketing Can Add Fuel to Your Social Media Efforts

August 11, 2009 By: Duane Coleman Category: Social Media Marketing

Article marketing is one of the oldest forms of marketing on the Internet.  It is also considered by some to be one of the easiest and most effective. However, doing it right requires specific skills.

It’s important to have the ability to write effectively or have access to skilled writers.  This could be someone with marketing responsibility or other direct customer contact.  Often times, organizations will hire ghost writers and then edit the content content before publishing.

It’s also important to know how to find the right competitive keyword phrase to feature in the title or your article may never be found.  In addition, your articles must include valuable information that’s easily scanned and digested.

You’ll also need to identify the best places to post your articles as there are actually hundreds of article repositories available on the Internet.  But only a handful of them get enough traffic from Google, Bing and Yahoo to make it worth your while.

That’s a lot to digest, but the good thing is that there are various Internet marketing firms than can assist you with the process.

So what are the benefits of Article Marketing?

First, it helps establish you as an authority in your field.  People place higher importance on “published” authorities, even if the articles are just published on the Internet.

Second, it gets your business and you found on websites other than just your own.  Many people search for information on the Internet before they are ready to buy.  While your website may not come up for that specific search, if they find your article, there’s a good chance they will follow it back to your website.

Third, search engines consider the Internet a popularity contest.  The more high ranking one-way links they see coming to your website, the more popular they think your website is.  Each article posted on an article directory is considered to be a one-way link.

Lastly, many of these article directories will allow your articles to be reprinted on other websites as long as they retain your resource box (with your company information) and the link back to your website.  So there’s a good chance, if your article is good enough, that it could go viral.

Again, the more websites the search engines find linking to your site, the more popular they think your website is. Therefore, you want your articles spread across the Internet as much as possible.

One quick warning: You don’t want your article to sound like a sales pitch for you, your products or services.  If the article directory sees your article as a blatant sales pitch, they will refuse to publish it and may ban you from their site.  It has to be a legitimate and informative article to get posted on most of these sites.

As mentioned, article marketing is one of the oldest forms of marketing on the Internet. And the reason why is because it’s also one of the most effective!
