External Blogs Can Drive Traffic to Your Website

June 19, 2009 By: Duane Coleman Category: Social Media Marketing

The prior post on Blogs mentioned some of the benefits of using a blog to generate fresh content, which appeals to search engines.

Today, I’ll provide insight into how commenting on external blogs can drive traffic to your website.  This may be old news for many, but still worth mentioning as many business owners are interested in doing all that they can to generate website traffic from potential customers.

We encourage our clients to provide informative comments or expertise on blogs that are specific to their industry or interest and then to include a link to their company website.  Interested readers may click the link to your website, providing you with the opportunity to educate them about your company and its offerings.  Some of these readers may become prospects or even new customers.  It’s also important to note that Google and others use traffic as a factor in search engine rankings.

An example is for organizations that provide green or Eco friendly products or services  to comment on appropriate green or Eco friendly blogs and other social media sites.  We’ll discuss social media sites in future blog posts.  Some of these blogs can be found via blog search engines and industry associations can be a great source of information.

Commenting on external blogs provide you with an opportunity to share your expertise, while driving qualified traffic to your website and the amount of traffic can be significant, depending upon a number of factors.
