Related Searches: Another Way To Identify Potential Keyword Phrases

November 23, 2009 By: Duane Coleman Category: Internet Marketing, SEO - Search Engine Optimization

Ever wonder what the search terms that are occasionally found at the bottom of the Google search engine results page represent?  These keyword phrases are known as Related Searches and they are intended to make it easier for searchers to find the information that they are looking for.

These words may also become potential keyword phrases to research for your search marketing efforts as they may be more specific than those produced by some keyword tools.  The rule of thumb is that the more specific the keyword phrase, the higher the conversion rate with all things being equal.

For example, I just typed the keyword phrase “computer printer” into Google.  At the bottom of the page the following Searches Related to “computer printer”  appeared:  computer printer reviews, best computer printer, computer laser printers, inkjet printers, etc…… In the event that I was really looking for inkjet printers as opposed to any other sort of computer printer I would click on the “inkjet printer”  link which will take me to a list of sites that may be a better fit.

In some instances these types of search terms may represent potential keywords that you may desire to test or optimize for as part of your SEO or other search marketing efforts.  And its not uncommon to find long tail keyword phrases listed here that you may not have previously considered.

So the next time you’re doing keywords research and analysis and need additional keyword  ideas, take a look at the related searches.  It only takes a few seconds and you may find a phrase or two that can drive additional qualified traffic to your site.
