RSS: A Great Way to Feed Information to Your Audience
As with many social media related elements, there is a lot of confusion out there about RSS. First off, what exactly is RSS?
Well, RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and what it does is publish frequently posted material on the web and pushes it out to your audience without your involvement.
Instead of your audience coming to you for information, your blog, etc. automatically forwards the information to them.
I’m sure you’ve seen the symbol for RSS. It’s the one located next to my e-mail icon near the upper right hand side of this page (just above the e-mail address box). But did you know that all your audience has to do is click on the icon to subscribe to your blog or other feed?
Next they’ll need to sign up for a feed reader service. Google offers a free service that puts all of your feeds in one place. You can receive feeds via e-mail as well.
RSS feeds are also a great way to disseminate information to many of your social media pages. This minimizes the amount of content that you are required to write. And as you know, good, fresh content is king.
We’ll talk more about that in a upcoming post. Stay tuned.
