Social Media Marketing Takes Time: Plan Accordingly

September 04, 2009 By: Duane Coleman Category: Social Media Marketing

Social media marketing can offer significant benefits for small and medium sized businesses, yet it takes time and/or other resources to do it right.

Social media is one area that should be worked on a consistent basis in order to be effective long term.  Whether its blogging, writing articles for your article marketing efforts or keeping current with Twitter or your favorite bookmarking site, its all about fresh content, which takes time or resources to create and monitor.

This is because social media is largely about relationships and successful relationships need to be nurtured.  Relationships, in this case, are nurtured via electronic content and its important to stay active as followers may start to abandon your social media vehicles if a prolonged period goes by without contact.

Thus, the importance of a social media strategy.  It’s not only helpful to be in the right places, its also helpful to be in the right places often and allocating time and resources should be taken into account.

All aspects of social media should work together with your other internet marketing and traditional marketing initiatives in order to deliver maximum results and a strategy should be the foundation from which to move forward.

So if you’re new to social media, understand that time and/or resources will be important to your success and a well thought out plan will improve your effectiveness.

I recommend seeking professional assistance to help you develop your social media plan.  There are a number of Internet marketing firms, that specialize in social media marketing, that may be able to help you in this area.  This also takes time, but its time well spent.
